what to wear on a hot air balloon ride

Hot Air Ballooning is a Sport…

Casual attire is absolutely appropriate, even expected on a hot air balloon ride. So, aside from a few exceptions, just dress comfortably. The weather up high is about the same as it is at ground level, so dress as you normally would for a walk in your local park.

Head Cover: Recommended

Although we won’t kick you out for it, we strongly encourage you to wear something over your head. Most passengers wear ball caps, but anything that completely covers the top of your head will do fine. The reason for this is because the baskets are small and the burners are just over 6-1/2 feet from the floor.Consequently, when the burners are ignited (which is frequently), the heat will radiate downward, and many people find it uncomfortable without headwear.

Protect Your Feet

Again, this is a sport. Combine that with the close quarters in the basket and many things could happen to your feet. Climbing in and out is almost impossible in high heels, and the terrain is bad for heels, anyway. So, please wear flat soled shoes that cover your entire foot. This will save your feet from getting stepped on and make your flight that much more safe, enjoyable and problem-free. Besides, why mess up a pretty pair of shoes by stepping in a cow patty? 🙂

Differences Between Sunrise and Sunset Flights

In the spring and fall, temperatures can change dramatically in the pacific Northwest. So, if you are scheduled for a sunrise flight, you will want to be able to take off your jacket or windbreaker as the weather warms in the morning. For those who are flying at sunset, bring a jacket you can carry easily and wear when the weather chills. Of course, midsummer flights usually are no concern either way, as the temperatures are more stable.
